Things to Do in Houston After Hurricane Beryl





As Houstonians enter On the third day after Hurricane Beryl disrupted the city, and with more than 1.3 million CenterPoint customers still without power, it’s only natural that some of you are looking to venture outside and do…somethingOr at least find ways to bring some joy while you’re stuck inside.

From museum reopenings to playlist recommendations, here are some ways to have a little fun while you recover from the storm. Be careful driving on the roads, as many traffic lights are still out and some streets are impassable due to floodwaters or downed trees.

Things to do around Houston


  1. Support your local restaurant and eat something other than a can of soup. Check out our regularly updated list of restaurants, bars and cafes that have reopened.
  2. A total of 12 Houston Public Library Shops are open this Wednesday, so you can spend some time in the air conditioning and browse through a good book. Find out which shops are open here.
  3. Speaking of books, the Houston Book Warehouse in northwest Houston is also back in action and will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  4. Space Center Houston reopens its doors on Wednesday.
  5. THE Houston Interactive Aquarium is open from 10am to 8pm. “Our animals are safe and excited to see you all!” the team wrote on Instagram.
  6. THE Children’s Museum is back to regular opening hours, 9am to 5pm.
  7. THE Museum of Contemporary Art Houston is open from 11am to 6pm. Admission is always free and the museum is currently hosting a superb exhibition, If today were tomorrow by artist Olivia Erlanger.
  8. Summer Symphonic Evenings at Miller Open Air Theatre Performances at Hermann Park continue this weekend, with the Houston Symphony on July 12 and 13. “We’ve all been through a lot these past few days and everyone at Miller is sending all our love to Houston and the surrounding area,” the theater’s team wrote on Instagram. “Miller has fared well, with the exception of a few downed trees that we are working to clear.”
