The Ho Chi Minh City-Con Dao express boat service will be discontinued this month

An express boat service connecting Nha Be district in Ho Chi Minh City with Con Dao island off the coast of southern Ba Ria – Vung Tau province will be suspended from July 29 until further notice, just two months after its launch.

Phu Quoc Express JSC, the operator of the service, has informed its partners and customers of the planned suspension due to inefficient operation.

The company said the distance of over 20 kilometers between central Ho Chi Minh City and Saigon-Hiep Phuoc port in Nha Be district discouraged passengers from using the speedboat.

Many passengers complained that it was difficult to find a taxi from the port to downtown Ho Chi Minh City.

As a result, the service failed to meet expectations and the company decided to temporarily discontinue it.

The speedboat service was launched on May 13 to meet growing travel demand and improve connectivity between the city and southeastern provinces.

The Thang Long boat, which is over 77 metres long and almost 9.5 metres wide, is used to transport passengers on the express boat route.

It can carry up to 1,017 passengers, reaches a speed of 35 nautical miles per hour and has modern equipment that ensures maximum safety for passengers.

A speedboat ride between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao Island takes about four hours.
