7 Buffalo Beer Facts to Know This Week: July 10

1. The lock will open on July 12 in Lockport

Lock Tender Bottle Shop & Tap Room will officially open in Lockport at 4 Lock St. on July 12. The space will feature indoor seating for approximately 100 patrons, as well as an outdoor area for games and live music. Lock Tender plans to offer 10 New York State craft beer kegs, wine, cider and mead, both on tap and in bottles and cans to go. They will also offer a limited food menu featuring local produce and vendors, in partnership with Lockport’s Terroir General Store. 2. Big Ditch Dayburner Wins Silver

After winning gold in the Session IPA category last year at the US Open Beer Championship, Big Ditch’s flagship beer, Dayburner, took home silver in the same category this year. It beat out Low & Hazy from North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountain Brewery, which took home bronze. Benchtop Brewing Company’s Nectaron Machine took home gold. Breweries from across North America submitted more than 9,000 beers representing over 150 different styles to the 2024 US Open Beer Championship. New categories included Breakfast Stout, Barrel-Aged Breakfast Stout, Collaboration Beers and Non-Alcoholic Hopped Water. For a full list of winners, click here.

3. Big Ditch Announces Anti-Inflation Program

Big Ditch also announced a new Summer Inflation Buster menu, which features daily specials at relatively affordable prices. Mondays feature $0.75 wings (orders of 10), Tuesdays feature $10 pizzas, Wednesdays feature $12 burgers, Thursdays feature $5 draft beers and $10 appetizers, Mondays through Fridays (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) feature a $10 sandwich/salad combo, and Sundays feature $5 mimosas.

4. New lunch hours at the Hofbrauhaus, Crowler specialties

If you’re looking for cold German beers for lunch, you’re in luck because Hofbrauhaus Buffalo is now open for lunch. They’re serving lunch Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. with a new lunch menu featuring soups, salads, sandwiches like a Reuben, Beef on Weck, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, and Smashburger, bratwurst, pretzels, desserts, and more. Hofbrauhaus is also offering a new Crowler special. You can get a 32-ounce Crowler of Hofbrauhaus beer to go for $10, 3 for $25, or 6 for $30.




5. 11th Annual Bricks & Brews at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House

Enjoy craft beers, food trucks, and live music on the grounds of Martin House during the 10th annual Bricks & Brews, returning July 12 (6 p.m.). The event will feature beer tastings from 25 Western New York breweries and cideries, including Brazen Brewing, Pod City Beer Labs, Big Inlet Brewing, Wayland Brewing Company, and Donovan Orchards Estate Ciders, which are new to the event this year, live music from A Girl Named Genny, and food trucks. Proceeds from the event will support Martin House tours and programs. Tickets ($75 non-members/$60 members) can be purchased at martinhouse.org. This is a rain or shine event.

6. Frequentem Brewery and Friends Day Festival

Buffalo’s Frequentem Brewery will bring all its friends together for a party on July 21 (noon). The event will feature a tasting of local beers on tap from Resurgence Brewing, Smoldered Society, Community Beer Works, BriarBrothers Brewing and Old First Ward Brewing, as well as Fat Bob’s Smokehouse food truck (2-4 p.m.), a live DJ spinning vinyl (2-5 p.m.), beer pong, raffles, giveaways and more. The event will take place at Buffalo’s Frequentem Brewery at 225 Louisiana Street.

7. Hounds & Hops “Best of the Litter” Variety 12 packs

Hounds & Hops, a doggie daycare and craft beer experience located in Seneca Tower, is now offering “Pick of the Litter” 12-packs of craft beer, which include 2 lagers, 2 IPAs, 2 ciders, 2 sours, 2 stouts, and 1 non-beer (cider, seltzers, wine, etc.), along with a beer for your dog and a Hounds & Hops collapsible travel dog bowl. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these Pick of the Litter packs will benefit local dog rescues and animal shelters. These mixed packs are available now at Hounds & Hops.
