Albany man arrested after fleeing traffic stop

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — An Albany man was arrested after fleeing from police during a traffic stop, according to New York State Police. Dasir Sims, 23, faces several charges.

On Saturday, at approximately 2:43 a.m., police stopped a car on State Route 9 in Malta. When the driver, later identified as Sims, approached the vehicle, he fled, police said. A pursuit was initiated and a tire pressure reducer was successfully deployed.


According to police, the car broke down on I-87 in Halfmoon, where Sims and two passengers were arrested. Police added that further investigation determined that Sims was in possession of an illegal amount of cannabis and items containing drug residue.

  • Reckless endangerment in the second degree
  • Third degree escape from a police officer in a motor vehicle
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (two counts)
  • Illegal possession of cannabis
  • Driving under the influence of drugs
  • Several violations of road traffic law

Sims and the two passengers were taken to the Saratoga State Police. The passengers were released and Sims was processed after a sample was taken by a drug recognition expert to determine the drug content in his blood. He was given a summons to appear in Halfmoon Town Court again on July 24 and was released to a sober party.
