Kaduna health workers suspend strike after reaching agreement with government

The Nigerian news agency recalls that the workers started the strike to emphasize their demands for an improvement in their social benefits.

This is contained in a communiqué signed by the Permanent Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM). Nassa Yashireleased in Kaduna on Wednesday.

He said, “The health workers had an intensive and meaningful discussion with the government, which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

“The suspension is also intended to create space for further negotiations and to wait for the government to fulfil its part of the declaration of intent.”

“The strike is hereby suspended and workers are expected to resume their normal duties immediately.

“The State Administrative Council (SAC) sincerely appreciates your massive support and determination in making this struggle to improve our welfare a great success.”

Yashi assured that they are ready to represent their members and added: “And very well and without fear or favoritism.

“Remember, this is a suspension. This means that if the promises made are not kept, we will resume industrial action at the appropriate time.”
