Ground Stop Made at Atlanta Airport Following Severe Weather Threat in North Georgia – 95.5 WSB

Destructive wind gusts reaching 60 mph or more were the main impacts of the storms. It’s powerful enough to down trees and power lines, and significant wind damage was possible through Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, officials made a stopover at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport due to severe weather crossing north Georgia.

Large hail – 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter – was possible throughout the morning and afternoon. Hail of this magnitude can cause considerable damage to car windshields and home roofs and siding.

Brief tornadoes remained possible throughout Thursday afternoon.
