Catawba County man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in Alexander County

Rickey Lee Bowman, 51, of Claremont, was arrested by Alexander County Sheriff’s officers on Monday (July 8) on charges of possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license and littering.

On Monday evening, Bowman was reportedly observed by Alexander County Sheriff’s deputies throwing items from his vehicle when officers stopped him on U.S. Highway 64. Bowman faces charges in Catawba County including driving without a license and reckless driving while endangering. He also faces charges of driving without a license in Iredell County.

According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender’s Public Information website, there are misdemeanor convictions against Rickey Lee Bowman in Catawba and Iredell counties since 2001. There are three cases listed, the most recent from 2022. After the arrest on Monday, Bowman was taken to the Alexander County Detention Center on $50,000 bail. As of today (July 10), he remains in jail. No court date has been given.
