Sodus man arrested after investigation into Newark shooting

A chaotic shooting incident on June 22 led to the arrest of a suspect on July 8. Anthony Canady Jr., 21, of Sodus, was arrested for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Newark police responded to a disturbance at 419 Madison Street around 4:15 p.m. There was reportedly a fight and gunshots. Officers stopped a vehicle and found a handgun nearby. They also discovered gunshot wounds on a home and shell casings in the street.

Canady, who was involved in the disturbance and was carrying a loaded handgun, turned himself in to Newark police. He was taken to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
