Mike Gundy reveals shocking reason why Ollie Gordon wasn’t suspended after DUI arrest

Mike Gundy faced reporters at Big 12 Media Days. The Oklahoma State Cowboys head coach answered some questions about the arrest of Ollie Gordon. The running back was caught driving under the influence. The athlete should have missed a game but was not suspended. Gundy explained the theory behind the decision.

The Cowboys have their sights set on the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff this season. Gordon led college football in rushing with 1,732 yards. His 21 touchdowns were second most on the list. There was speculation that they didn’t want their star player to miss playing time. HC Gundy cleared things up.

Mike Gundy explains why Ollie Gordon was not suspended

Mike addressed the debate surrounding Gordon’s drunk driving. “I’ve probably done that a thousand times in my life,” he said. Gordon added that he checked the legal age limit. “In Oklahoma, it’s 0.08. And Ollie was 0.1,” he explained.

Gundy didn’t want to talk about the legal side of it. But he estimated it was two, three, or four beers at most. He made it clear that he wasn’t justifying Ollie’s behavior. He just mentioned the decision he made. He went on to say that he’s probably been in a situation like this a thousand times in his life. Most of the time he’s been “lucky” and never got caught, like everyone else.

The Cowboys head coach then shared Ollie’s opinion on the matter. “Ollie made a decision that he wished he could have made better,” Gundy revealed. He explained to Gordon that he was lucky. Gundy said he only got the green light because he makes a lot of money playing football.

Mike Gundy’s comments on Ollie Gordon go viral

Mike’s defensive comment about his star player went viral online. Fans began to believe that Gundy had also driven under the influence in the past. He reached out to X to clarify. “My intention today at Big 12 Media Days was that we are all guilty of making poor decisions,” he wrote on X.

Gundy said it was not a specific hint, but a general idea. Ultimately, Gordon will not have to suffer for his actions. He will not miss a single game during the season. Gundy, however, hinted at an internal punishment for Gundy.

The Cowboys are ranked third in the media rankings, only ahead of Utah and Kansas State. The team received 14 votes, placing them first. The loss of their key player may have affected their campaign.
