Miami Twp. Police Lt. Etter placed on leave again following alleged weapons incident

He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

This news outlet has reached out to Perry Township Police for details on the incident but has not yet received them.

A Miami Twp. spokeswoman confirmed today that Miami Twp. police placed Etter on paid administrative leave on Monday due to his pending criminal case.

“MTPD will conduct an independent internal investigation into this incident while awaiting the outcome of the pending alleged criminal complaint,” the spokeswoman said. “The department will not provide further comment at this time as we cannot comment on personnel matters.”

Etter could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

The 24-year MTPD veteran was previously placed on paid administrative leave in February after being accused of violating police department general orders and township personnel policies.

A hearing on the issue was held in March. In April, the Miami Twp. Board of Supervisors filed charges against Etter for two of the four internal disciplinary actions against him and acquitted him of the other two charges. Township records show that Etter failed to pursue a harassment complaint and indicated an intent to retaliate against a female employee.

The Trustees imposed a disciplinary penalty in the form of an unpaid suspension for 30 calendar days and an immediate demotion to the rank of Lieutenant without the possibility of exercising any acting function above that rank.
