No freedom for Chimombe and Mpofu

A Domboshava man who allegedly raped and robbed women he lured with non-existent jobs has been caught and arraigned before a judge in Harare.

Willard Kudakwashe Jonifati, 25, posted fake job advertisements in a WhatsApp group and took advantage of women who showed interest in the positions, but was then arrested for rape and robbery.

It is alleged that he used the same approach on two of his victims who reported him to the police.

The court heard that he lured his victims to remote locations where he repeatedly raped them and then robbed the women of cash and valuables.

He was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

In another case, 35-year-old Tedius Mhungira is charged with armed robbery after breaking into a local business’s safe and stealing over $200,000.

The defendant allegedly threatened to shoot the premises’ security guard before breaking into the office, where he and his alleged accomplices, who are still at large, stole the cash.

He was remanded in custody pending trial.

In another case, businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, accused of fraud, remain in custody pending the outcome of their bail hearing.

The couple are accused of fraud in connection with over $7 million they received from the government to purchase goats for the Presidential Goat Scheme.
