An investigation is underway after a five-car crash in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a five-car crash early Thursday morning in Dorchester County.

The accident occurred just after 7 a.m. on westbound Route 50 at the Malkus Bridge. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford pickup was traveling west on Route 50 when it struck a tractor-trailer that had broken down in the roadway for unknown reasons. The van then strayed onto the road and was struck by oncoming traffic.

The driver of the pickup truck was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment. Another person was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Easton for treatment of their injuries. No other injuries were reported at the scene of the accident.

According to police, Route 50 was closed for over three hours following the accident. The cause is still being investigated.
