Alvaro Morata is being investigated after pitch invader incident in Spain vs France match

Spain will assess Alvaro Morata after he was involved in an incident with a pitch invader and a bizarre clash with a member of his own team’s security staff following the semi-final win over France.

Atletico Madrid striker Morata, who captains his national team, started the 2-1 win in Munich before being substituted shortly before the end.

While his teammates celebrated the game in front of the fans, a fan entered the field and tried to take a photo with the team.

A member of security staff appeared to run to intercept an intruder onto the pitch before slipping on the ground and colliding with Morata’s legs.

The 31-year-old got back on his feet before standing there bent over for several minutes.

Television cameras then appeared to show the former Chelsea striker grimacing as he marched through a guard of honour alongside his teammates.

Spain head coach Luis De La Fuente said they would have to “wait until tomorrow” as the final in Berlin was five days away.

Midfielder Rodri said Morata was in pain in the dressing room but added that he should be “fine” for the final.

Earlier that evening, a pitch intruder was arrested while trying to take a selfie with French captain Kylian Mbappe.

The organiser of the 2024 European Championship, UEFA, has been criticised for its security measures surrounding live matches after numerous attempts to storm the pitch were made throughout the tournament.

UEFA said it would step up security measures after seven fans entered the pitch during Portugal’s victory over Turkey at BVB Stadium in Dortmund.

Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez later said the incidents were “worrying” and could pose a danger to the players.

Spain will play in its fifth European Championship final and will face the winner of the Netherlands vs. England match in the other semi-final on Wednesday evening.
