Huntley man sentenced to 18 years in prison for possessing child sexual abuse images

Allen Q. Nguyen

A Huntley man pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse images and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Allen Nguyen, 30, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography: one count related to a video depicting sexual abuse of a child under 18 and another count related to distribution of a video depicting sexual abuse of a child under 13, according to McHenry County court records.

The guilty plea stems from a cyber tip received by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on June 20, 2023. The tip was related to the alleged sharing of videos containing images of child sexual abuse on Snapchat. Huntley police executed a search warrant on the associated IP address, which ultimately led to Nguyen’s home, authorities said. According to a press release from McHenry County District Attorney Patrick Kenneally’s office, several electronic devices were found containing thousands of videos and images of child pornography.

The arrest came after a four-month investigation, previous reports said. Additional charges of possessing child abuse images were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea, court records show.

Nguyen pleaded guilty to distributing a video depicting a child under the age of 13 engaging in sexual conduct with an adult via Snapchat on May 24, 2023, and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He also pleaded guilty to possessing a video depicting a child under the age of 18 engaging in sexual conduct with an adult and was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

The sentences will be served consecutively, and Nguyen must serve 50% of the total sentence. Nguyen must also register as a sex offender for life.

After his release from prison, he will be on probation for at least three years, possibly for life. According to the verdict, he will receive credit for 256 days in county jail, plus an additional 120 days, or half a day for each of the 240 days he worked, volunteered or participated in a continuing education program. He must also pay a $5,300 fine, according to court records.
