Houston-Galveston Area Council announces $138.8 million road projects planned for Lake Houston area

Houston, Texas — Approximately $138.8 million in projects in the Lake Houston area received state and federal funding as part of the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s 2025-28 Transportation Improvement Plan.

According to TIP documents, federal and state funding has been allocated over the next four years to a number of local projects, including:

Sorters route

  • Four-lane widening between FM 1314 and Highway 59

Ford Road

  • Widen from two to four lanes between Loop 494 and the Harris County line

Northpark Promenade (A)

  • Widen from four to six lanes between Russell Palmer Road and the Harris County line and rebuild the bridge at the Kingwood diversion ditch.

Northpark Promenade (B)

  • Widen from four to six lanes between the Montgomery County line and Woodland Hills Drive, rebuild the Ben’s Branch Bridge and add a pedestrian underpass at Plum Valley Drive.

At an April 3 meeting, the H-GAC unveiled TIP 2025-28, which recommended $18.77 billion in federal and state funding for transportation projects in eight Houston-area counties. Funding is allocated every four years to projects that are part of the Regional Transportation Plan 2045, also managed by H-GAC.

“This serves as an implementation device for the long-range transportation plan,” said Adam Beckom, H-GAC chief regional planner, during the April 3 presentation.

The H-GAC accepted public comments on the proposed project list for TIP 2025-28 until April 24. After the conclusion of the public comment period, H-GAC officials said the list of projects would be finalized and funding allocated in June based on the changes made.
