The New York State Police announced in a press release that officers were called to a rollover vehicle crash on the southbound Taconic State Parkway near Granite Knolls Park in Yorktown at around 7:20 p.m. Monday.

State police say an initial investigation shows a 2015 BMW M5 traveling south at a high rate of speed struck a guardrail and overturned. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and, despite life-saving efforts by good Samaritans, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police say the driver may have been having a speed contest on an unknown motorcycle several miles north of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
