WSU student charged with alleged rape of female student on campus – Pullman Radio

A Washington State University student has been charged with allegedly raping a female student on campus last spring.

Erick Leal, 25, was charged with second-degree rape in Whitman County Superior Court. The victim went to Pullman Regional Hospital, who reported the rape to WSU police. The victim told police officers that she and Leal had been drinking at his campus apartment on April 17.th when she was raped. She told investigators that she passed out and woke up to Leal sexually assaulting her. According to court documents, the woman told police that she told Leal several times that she would not have sex with him. Leal allegedly put his hand on the woman’s throat and she thought she was going to die.

According to court documents, Leal admitted to the rape during a phone conversation with the woman that was recorded by police. WSU officers received permission from Whitman County Superior Court to record the conversation. Leal told police the sex was consensual.

Leal’s first appearance in Whitman County Superior Court is scheduled for June 19.th.
