How Buffalo Volunteers Are Helping Fight Hurricane Beryl

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A charity is sending Buffalo residents to Texas to help feed those affected by Hurricane Beryl.

Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) is bringing volunteers from Buffalo to an area outside of Houston to provide meals to affected individuals, first responders and other volunteers as part of their mass feeding ministry program.

Beryl moved into Texas on Monday, knocking out power to nearly 3 million people, according to EDOH.

“We already have officials, volunteers and supplies traveling to affected areas to provide hot meals to families as they begin to prepare for the first steps of their disaster recovery. We hope to bring peace and comfort in the midst of this chaos,” said Chandler Gurley, EDOH’s director of operations.

On July 20, EDOH will be traveling to Buffalo to participate in free home repairs in the Ellicott District. This will be the fifth year of outreach in the city. Since 2019, they have helped over 1,249 families in 4 different districts, EDOH says.

Further information about volunteer requirements will be available on the charity’s website.
