Four people arrested in Syracuse, New York, for stolen military equipment

According to a press release from New York State Police Troop D, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division contacted state police about a suspicious social media marketplace account.

The account belonged to James Waleski of Jamesville, New York, a civilian of the Ministry of Defense with the 174th Air National Guard Attack Wing in Syracuse, New York. The CID alerted the New York State Police that Waleski offered military equipment for sale that was not available to the general public.

A search warrant was executed on his home, phone and computer. New York State Police seized tens of thousands of dollars worth of military equipment stolen from the 174th and 272nd Regiments.and Army Military Police Detachment in Auburn, New York, and Army National Guard 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Syracuse, New York.

According to the report, Waleski stole military equipment to sell online and in stores. New York State Police seized military equipment across the United States, including Texas, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida and New York State. They also seized a bulletproof vest that was to be shipped to Russia.

In addition to this investigation, it was revealed that Gordon Reynolds of Chittenango, New York, is a military policeman assigned to the 272and Military Police Department in Auburn, NY, along with Garcia-Hernandez of Rome, New York, a supply specialist with Company D 152and Brigade Engineer Battalion in Syracuse, also stole items. Both were charged accordingly.

As a result of the investigation, the New York State Police charged four individuals with the following offenses:

James Waleski

  • Grand Theft 2and Degree (C crime)
  • (10 counts) Criminal possession of weapons 3rd Grad – High Capacity Magazines (D-Felony)
  • Criminal possession of weapons 3rd Grade – Assault weapon (D-crime)
  • Illegal sale of body armor (A offense)

Jennifer Waleski

  • Criminal possession of weapons 3rd Grade – Assault weapon (D-crime)

Gordon Reynolds

  • Criminal possession of stolen property 4th Degree (E-Crime)
  • Criminal possession of weapons 3rd Grade – Assault weapon (D- Serious crime)
  • Criminal possession of weapons 3rd Grad – High Capacity Magazine (D-Felony)

Joriann Garcia-Hernandez

  • Petty theft (A-offense)
