State Thruway Authority worker killed, another seriously injured in work zone incident

HENRIETTA, NY – A New York State Thruway Authority maintenance worker died and another was struck while setting up a work zone Thursday afternoon in Henrietta, outside of Rochester.

Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed the incident through a statement.

“Today, a Thruway Authority maintenance worker died while setting up a work zone on I-90 in Henrietta. Another was injured in the same incident and remains in serious condition,” she said.

“We are heartbroken by this senseless death, pray for the injured worker’s recovery, and are grateful to the first responders who stepped in to support their public service colleagues. This incident is a tragic reminder: Responsible driving is a life-saving skill. “All New Yorkers should remain alert, slow down and move around when approaching a work zone or a stopped vehicle.”

According to NITTEC, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The eastbound lanes of the expressway past Exit 47 were closed shortly thereafter.
