The House of Representatives called on the federal government on Tuesday to suspend the implementation of the recently signed Samoa agreement.

The House of Representatives said implementation of the agreement must be put on hold pending the completion of the investigation into the matter.

Earlier, a motion by Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki and 88 others was adopted at the plenary session on Tuesday, pointing out some allegedly objectionable clauses in the agreement.

It may be recalled that the Nigerian Federal Government recently signed the controversial Samoa Accord, which was opposed by several Nigerians.

Madaki said in his keynote debate that the agreement allegedly promoted LGBT rights, which contradicted the country’s existing laws.
