Liberal man dies in accident in Texas County

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a Liberal man and woman in Texas County, Oklahoma, Monday morning.

OHP reported that the fatal accident occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Monday on US Highway 64, about eleven kilometers east of Hooker, Oklahoma. A Chrysler Pacifica (model year 2005) and a Chevy Silverado (model year 2015) were involved.

The driver of the Pacifica, 55-year-old Francisco Vicente of Liberal, and a passenger, 47-year-old Maria Lux Pu of Liberal, were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Hooker Fire Department and transported to Henson Novak Funeral Home in Guymon, Oklahoma.

Three children, ages 8, 6 and 11, all from Liberal, were transported by Hooker EMS to Southwest Medical Center and later transferred by Apollo to Wesley Trauma Center in Wichita. The 8-year-old was admitted for internal injuries to the head and torso, while the 6-year-old and 11-year-old were admitted for internal injuries to the torso only.

Another Pacifica passenger, 40-year-old Marco Chicaj of Liberal, was also transported to SWMC by Hooker EMS and transferred by Apollo to Wesley Trauma Center and admitted with internal injuries to the head and torso.

The driver of the Silverado, Ashton Harrison, 25, of Beaver, Oklahoma, was transported to SWMC by Hooker EMS and later transferred to Wesley Medical Center, where he was admitted in stable condition with head and neck injuries.

In addition to the cause of the accident, the OHP also investigates the condition of the drivers and the use of seat belts by the driver and passengers in the vehicle.
