Manhattan man arrested – NBC New York

A man who had to be transported from the scene of a Manhattan crime where a mob attempted to attack him while NYPD officers were handcuffing him in connection with a murder investigation is charged with concealing a human corpse, authorities said Tuesday.

Although he is not currently charged with murder in this case, the man has been arrested for murder before – in 1994, when he allegedly blew up a house as his uncle entered it, investigators say.

In another case, he was also charged with threats and illegal possession of weapons, the NYPD said.

It was not clear whether prosecutors planned to file a higher charge against the man in connection with the death of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams, whose body was found Friday in a sleeping bag that was also packed in a sack and dumped with other trash for collection on a sidewalk on East 27th Street in Kips Bay. Police say Williams was shot in the head.

They ruled her death a homicide. It is not clear how long her body had been in the sleeping bag before the gruesome discovery.

Videos and photos shared on social media show what appears to be a life-sized body wrapped in a dark sleeping bag, which is also wrapped in black garbage bags. Sources told NBC New York that surveillance video shows a person in a power wheelchair pulling the sleeping bag behind them.

According to police, a man in his 50s was arrested in connection with the incident. The crowd tried to attack him. Police and paramedics held the mob back while punches were thrown while others spat at him.

Tensions remained high until the man was put in an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital.

The victim’s mother, Nicole Williams, was there when he was taken away.

“He’s disgusting… he looks like scum,” Williams said. “They were angry. He… took her life… threw my daughter in a garbage bag.”

Information about the man’s lawyer was not immediately available on Tuesday.
