In April, 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes, and five major hurricanes were forecast for the state of Colorado, making it the most aggressive forecast ever.

An average hurricane season typically produces 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, three of which are Category 3 or higher.

The combination of record-breaking Atlantic water temperatures and the impending La Niña weather pattern has resulted in the highest numbers ever.

With Alberto, Beryl and Chris, we have already ticked off three names this year. Beryl is the first hurricane of the season to reach Category 5 strength and broke many records in early July.
