Autopsy and toxicology reports released on Shannon Park shooting suspect

CHARLOTTE (NEWS FROM QUEEN CITY) — The suspect in the Shannon Park shooting who shot four police officers before being killed himself was shot 10 times and had THC in his system at the time of his death, according to autopsy and toxicology documents obtained by Queen City News Tuesday.

Hughes, 39, killed four police officers when a shootout broke out outside a home in east Charlotte after a U.S. Marshals task force attempted to execute an arrest warrant on April 29.


According to the autopsy report, Hughes suffered ten gunshot wounds to his arms, thighs, buttocks, back and shoulder. The medical examiner found nine bullets. The investigation was conducted on May 1 and concluded on July 5.

According to the toxicology report, Delta-9 was detected in Hughes’ body. Tadalafil, which is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure, was also detected.

CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer, Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks and two members of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, Sam Poloche and William Elliott, were tragically killed in the April shooting.

After the tragedy, CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings called the incident one of the darkest days in the history of the city and the police department.
