Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal were sentenced to six-day suspensions following their entertaining boxing match last weekend.

Diaz and Masvisdal met in a rematch of their 2019 UFC duel – but this time in a professional boxing ring. Diaz received the nod from all three judges, who awarded him the fight after 10 rounds with scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 95-95.

Neither Diaz nor Masvidal suffered any injuries after the fight and will be cleared to compete later this month. In the co-main event, former world champion Daniel Jacobs was suspended for 60 days after his loss to Shane Mosley Jr. Jacobs must be cleared by a doctor before he can resume contact training.

Looking back on his first win in professional boxing after losing to Jake Paul last year, Diaz added: “Mission accomplished. I feel the love here in Cali every time. He came and came to fight, and so did I. We just went there to understand him. I’m ready to face the highest rated boxer I can find. My main goal is to be the best fighter in the world.”

However, Masvidal insisted he should have had his hand raised. “I definitely felt like I landed the more significant punches. When the judges see the videos, they’ll realize they were wrong.” Diaz, who last fought in the UFC against Tony Ferguson in 2022, has his sights set on a rematch with Paul or welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Diaz was defeated by the Brit on points in 2021 after shaking up the champion in the final round.

“Off the top of my head, I’d love to kick (Paul’s) ass,” he said. “I’d love to beat Leon Edwards, who is the best fighter in the world right now at 170 pounds. I think that’s something big that actually brings something I can put in a credential box, that’s my goal. I’m not playing for fucking fun fights, because that shit isn’t fun.”

Diaz, however, ruled out an immediate trilogy with Masvidal. “That’s a whole different situation for later,” he said. “I think we’re 1-0 against each other. He’s got a win in MMA and I’ve got a win in boxing. Who knows what’s going to happen to him… but eventually something will happen.”
