STORMTRACKER 4 ALERT DAY: Dangerous heat continues across Southern Arizona | Warnings

STORMTRACKER 4 ALERT DAY: Today is an ALERT DAY for Tucson due to extreme heat! Yesterday the mercury reached 112° at Tucson International Airport, surpassing the old record of 111° set on this day in 1994.

While yesterday was the hottest day of the week and the year, today and Wednesday we are recording equally high temperatures.

A heat warning is currently in effect for most of southern Arizona until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service will likely extend this warning through Thursday.

The biggest impact over the next few days will be the health risks associated with extreme heat. The risk of heat exhaustion, heat cramps, heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses will increase significantly over the next few days.

It is important to wear light and loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and try to avoid strenuous activity during the hours of greatest heat. Instead, try to schedule your activities for the early morning or evening hours.

The easternmost part of the state and the south near the Mexican border, which includes Cochise, Graham and Santa Cruz counties, are still under a risk of storms today. However, it will be short-lived. Any storms that develop could bring gusty, damaging winds. A few isolated showers in Tucson cannot be ruled out.

From the middle of the week, the probability of monsoon rain and thunderstorms will increase again and temperatures will drop slightly again by the weekend.

  • Today: Heat warning. Highest temperature: 110°
  • Tonight: Mostly clear. Low: 82°
  • Tomorrow: Heat warning. High temperature: 110°
