1. Black Women’s Health Disparities Taken Closer Look by American Cancer Society

⚕️ As Black women continue to face the highest death rates compared to other races for most cancers, the American Cancer Society has launched the largest national study of its kind to understand what’s behind this reality.

Although better detection and new drugs have contributed to a decline in cancer deaths in the United States since a peak in 1991, black women have the highest death rates for most cancers.

As part of the VOICES of Black Women study, the American Cancer Society plans to recruit at least 100,000 black women from 20 states and the District of Columbia to follow them for 30 years. The organization notes that the target areas are where 90 percent of black American women ages 25 to 55 reside.

3. Artificial intelligence will affect a wide range of public services

⚖️ Georgia lawmakers may or may not draft legislation this summer and fall to establish national standards to regulate emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

But one certainty emerged clearly during a state Senate study committee’s inaugural hearing late last month: AI will have a profound impact on a wide range of government policy areas, from economic development to health care, education, public safety and transportation.

“This is going to have an impact and change things like never before,” said Sen. John Albers, a Roswell Republican who chairs the Senate Study Committee on Artificial Development.
