Child found dead after disappearing at lake in the Carolinas

TEGA CAY, SC (NEWS FROM QUEEN CITY) — The body of a teenage swimmer who went missing in Lake Wylie has been found, according to Tega Cay police.

On Monday, July 8, at around 4 p.m., authorities received a call about a “swimmer in distress” who had disappeared from Pitcairn Park.

Tega Cay police and fire departments, as well as the Charlotte Fire Department, began searching for the teenager, who was found about 45 minutes later.

The investigation will now be handled by the York County Coroner’s Office.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and those involved,” said Tega Cay Police Chief Crosby. “Please hug your loved ones even tighter tonight because a family in our community will be going to sleep without a family member.”

This incident occurred just days after a Swimmer drowns in Lake Norman over the July 4th holiday.
