Four dead in less than 24 hours in shootings in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — Four people are dead and at least three others injured, including two in critical condition, after several shootings in the Charlotte area over the past 24 hours.

Officers responded to three fatal shootings late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, including one on Parker Drive near Remount Road around 9 p.m. in which four people were shot. One person died at the hospital and three others were hospitalized, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Just four hours later, one person died in a shooting along Statesville Avenue, near Jeff Adams Drive in north Charlotte, CMPD said.

Another person was killed in a northwest Charlotte neighborhood on Monday evening. Officers arrived on Cinnabay Drive around 5:30 p.m. to find a victim shot. The victim died at the scene.

Officials said they are not currently looking for any additional suspects in connection with the Cinnabay Drive shooting.

All of this happened after a person later identified as 36-year-old Derrick Byas was found shot to death outside of a car near an embankment off Rea Road between Interstate 485 and Piper Glen Drive, CMPD said. It’s unclear if police are looking for suspects.
