Glendale police investigate fatal shooting of attempted robbery suspect – NBC Los Angeles

An investigation is ongoing after police responded to a man shot in the middle of the street in Glendale late Sunday night.

Glendale police spent the night trying to piece together what happened. Some people initially thought it was a DUI incident, but police now say the two people they are looking for were victims of a robbery and the man who was shot was trying to rob them.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday evening, families in the quiet Glendale North neighborhood heard a series of gunshots.

Police said several people called 911. More than a dozen neighbors stepped outside to find paramedics performing CPR on a man in the middle of Dryden Street near Brand Boulevard.

“I saw the paramedic doing CPR and had no idea what was going on. And then a minute later they covered him with a sheet,” said Terri Robertson, a medical assistant.

While Glendale police cannot say who the man is, their investigation revealed that the man was armed and was attempting to rob two people in an SUV when the driver shot him.

“It’s a bit of a bizarre situation. This kind of thing doesn’t normally happen,” said Sergeant Vahe Abramyan, spokesman for the Glendale Police Department.

Police said the shooter and a passenger in the SUV drove away. They are currently searching for them, but they say they have not been charged with murder.

“Anything is possible, but right now it looks like they are victims,” Abramyan said.

Some people in the community want to know the full story, but say they would support the counterattack if the victims were actually held at gunpoint.

“I would say they have to, because crime is increasing everywhere,” Robertson said.

“If someone is in a situation where their life or the life of another person is in danger, I would do everything I can as a member of the community, as a citizen, to protect myself and others,” Abramyan said. “Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions you commit, but when it’s a matter of life or death, the decision is up to the individual.”

Glendale Police are urging the shooter and passenger, as well as anyone else who may have information, to contact them.
