Weather warning day: Another wave of rain could cause more flooding in Mid-Missouri

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a weather advisory for the day as more dangerous flooding may return starting tonight through Tuesday afternoon as rain and storms return to Mid-Missouri.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl are currently spawning tornadoes throughout the Ark-La-Tex region, and the northern bands of the post-tropical low are bringing scattered storms with heavy rains and isolated damaging winds, and hail has already reached southern Missouri.

Isolated storms will slowly move north tonight, with the threat decreasing as the sun sets. Rain will become widespread and heavy at times between 6:00 a.m. and noon. Showers are expected to continue into the late afternoon or early evening as the rain moves east.

Precipitation amounts will depend on the track of the low pressure system. Currently, the low pressure system is expected to track along the I-44 corridor, so the highest precipitation amounts will be along and south of that line. Further north, rain is still expected, but amounts will be less.

After heavy rains this morning, a flood warning has been issued for much of central Missouri, with another 1-4 inches possible. Much of central Missouri will be at the lower end of that range, but many areas along I-70 are at risk of flooding given the 7-10 inches+ of rain since July 1. Columbia has recorded nearly 11 inches month-to-date, more than double the normal monthly rainfall amount just a week into the month.

Be sure to pay attention to local warnings and road closures due to flooding. If you see a road under water, do not take any risks and find an alternative route. Less than 30 cm of water is enough to move a vehicle.
