Bellville woman killed as pedestrian after two-vehicle crash in Marion

MARION – A Bellville woman was killed Monday as she walked on a sidewalk while a vehicle pulled out of a driveway in Marion, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was identified as Linda Showalter, 72, of Bellville. A 7-year-old and a 2-year-old were with Showalter at the time of the accident. The 2-year-old suffered minor injuries. The 7-year-old and McGinnis were not injured.

The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Center Street near Chicago Avenue in Marion.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marion Post, Showalter was struck on the sidewalk by a Ford Escape driven by 85-year-old Sandra Brown of Marion as she turned from a private driveway onto Center Street.

Showalter and the Escape were then struck by a Kenworth T480 truck driven by James McGinnis, 53, of Marion, who was traveling east on Center Street.

Showalter suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Brown and her passenger, Diane Wilcox, 79, of Marion, both suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Marion General Hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the City of Marion Fire and EMS Department, Marion Police Department and Kirby’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
