Suspect arrested after allegedly beating and robbing elderly woman in viral video

(KRON) — Oakland police believe they have arrested a man who beat and robbed an elderly woman in Oakland. A video of the robbery has been viewed over 5.1 million times on X.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 5500 block of San Pablo Avenue.

Two people were victims. The video shows the male suspect approaching the victims and throwing the elderly woman to the ground. He later hit her on the head before taking the bags from both victims.

An off-duty Oakland Police Department officer and other witnesses saw the crime and followed the suspect, who was later arrested and identified as an Oakland man. OPD learned he is suspected of committing four robberies in the area.

The suspect dropped the victims’ belongings and the officer assisted in returning the bags to the victims.
