Investigations into the shipping accident in which Khyree Jackson died are ongoing

The traffic crash that killed Minnesota Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson and two of his former high school teammates on Saturday remains under investigation, the Prince George’s County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Although no charges have been filed yet, Denise Douglas, a spokeswoman for the Prince George’s County District Attorney’s Office, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that prosecutors are “certainly moving quickly and expeditiously” and have scheduled “an initial evidentiary hearing” for this week.

“We only have initial reports that do not include the (blood alcohol content) that must be determined from medical records in this case,” the Prince George’s County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release to WTOP-TV in Washington. “We have not yet received those. More information is needed on exactly what happened to gather sufficient evidence.”

According to the Maryland State Police accident report, Jackson was a passenger in a Dodge Charger that was involved in a three-vehicle crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. State police arrived at the crash at 3:14 a.m. EDT on Saturday.

The Maryland State Police’s preliminary investigation revealed that an Infiniti Q50 driven by Cori Imani Clingman collided with the Charger and a Chevrolet Impala while attempting to change lanes at a high rate of speed. The Charger left the road and struck several tree stumps, the police report states.

While the occupants of the other two vehicles were uninjured, the three occupants of the Charger were killed, including driver Isaiah Hazel and passenger Anthony Lytton Jr. Lytton and Hazel were Jackson’s teammates at Dr. Henry Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro.

Investigators said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

Jackson joined the Vikings on April 27 in the fourth round of the NFL Draft from Oregon, where the cornerback will play in 2023 after spending the previous two seasons at Alabama.

Jackson was scheduled to report to his first NFL training camp on July 21 along with the rest of Minnesota’s rookies.
