Latest information on Israel’s war against Gaza: Displaced Palestinians “in fear and terror” | News on the conflict between Israel and Palestine

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has said it has reached an agreement with Brown University to ensure the university complies with federal law prohibiting discrimination and harassment against students of Jewish, Palestinian, Arab and Muslim descent.

According to an investigation, the school received around 75 reports of alleged anti-Jewish, anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim harassment against students between October 2023 and the end of March 2024, but appeared to take little or no action other than acknowledging receipt of the reports, listing sources of assistance and requesting a meeting with the complainants.

The Office of Civil Rights’ investigation confirmed that the university has since taken notable steps to promote a discrimination-free campus environment, including workshops for students and staff on combating anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hate.

The university also revised its practices to focus on protecting the safety of its community, particularly the needs and safety of its students, faculty and staff who are Israeli, Palestinian, Muslim or Jewish, have ties to Palestine or Israel, and feel affected by the Israeli war in Gaza.
