Allen Police Investigate Missing Baseball Card – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Allen Police detectives continue to investigate the theft of valuable baseball cards. The victim posted a spreadsheet online detailing what was stolen: nearly $2 million worth of cards.

Police told NBC 5 that they are taking this theft very seriously because they have a good business relationship with the Dallas Card Show, one of the largest card dealer events in the country.

On Sunday, the last day of the show, a man distracted the Legacy Cards vendor while the vendors were dismantling their booths while another man stole a suitcase behind him.

Ashsh Jai is the vintage card dealer of Legacy Cardz. He posted his recording of the surveillance video on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram in the hopes that someone would identify the thieves. He also wrote online that he is offering a $70,000 reward.

In a brief phone conversation with NBC 5, Jai said he had a very hectic day trying to find the stolen property.

A quick look online shows just how valuable individual cards can be: Many are worth tens of thousands of dollars, some even more than $100,000. According to news reports from Ohio, a similar case occurred earlier this spring. Police arrested a 27-year-old man after he was accused of stealing cards valued at over $2.1 million.

After reviewing the surveillance video, Allen Police believe it was an organized and planned crime.

“It appears to be an organized group of individuals. One person distracts the victim and then the other moves in to rob him of his property,” said Sammy Rippamonti of Allen police.

Rippamonti said Monday they are collecting evidence: fingerprints, videos and photos. They plan to use facial recognition technology to identify the suspects.

“We’ve learned that the trading card world is a very tight-knit community, so if you see these cards at other shows or online sites, please come forward and let us know,” Officer Rippamonti said.
