Police: Man from Central Pennsylvania hits cyclist while aggressive at the wheel

Police have arrested a Cumberland County man who allegedly struck a bicyclist last month after attempting to run him off the road with a pickup truck.

Police charged the truck driver, Donald Alleman (57) of Mechanicsburg, with attempted aggravated assault with a vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and making terroristic threats.

Police have also charged Alleman with various traffic violations that they say occurred on June 23.

The incident began on East Winding Hill Road near Orchard Boulevard and continued to the intersection of Gettysburg Pike and Cumberland Parkway, police said.

According to police, video footage from a private car camera showed a pickup truck attempting to force a cyclist off the road before later hitting the driver.

The extent of the cyclist’s injuries was unclear

A press release said police later linked Alleman to the pickup truck.

Alleman turned himself in to police on June 28 and was arraigned before Magistrate District Judge Elizabeth Beckley, police said. She released Alleman on $5,000 bail.

Alleman is scheduled to appear before District Judge Mark Martin for a preliminary hearing on September 5.
