Vancouver man killed in hit-and-run while sitting under tree

VANCOUVER, Washington – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash near Northeast Andresen Road in Vancouver on Monday afternoon.

Vancouver police said they checked a man found under a tree along Northeast Andresen. When officers arrived, they found the man dead. The man was apparently killed when he was struck by a vehicle while sitting under the tree, Vancouver police said.

Officers found the vehicle that struck the man unoccupied nearby, but surveillance footage showed a woman wearing “conspicuous clothing” leaving the scene. A sniffer dog unit found the woman, and police said she was “detained” pending further investigation.

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Vancouver Police Traffic Unit are investigating the incident.

The identities of the driver and the man killed have not yet been released.
