United plane loses tires during takeoff in Los Angeles

A United Airlines plane lost a tire during takeoff on Monday. The flight took off from Los Angeles and later landed in Denver without further incident.

The airline said no one was injured when a main landing gear tire was lost during takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport at 7:16 a.m. local time. The flight continued safely to Denver International Airport and landed there at around 10:10 a.m. local time.

The 179 passengers and seven crew members on board the Boeing 757 were not injured.

“The bike was recovered in Los Angeles and we are investigating what caused this incident,” the airline said in a statement.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating.

A similar incident occurred in March when a United flight took off from San Francisco International Airport. Several cars in an employee parking lot were crushed by falling debris. The flight was safely diverted to Los Angeles.

Monday’s incident was the latest in the aviation industry, which came under increased scrutiny in January after a door stopper on an Alaska Airlines plane broke in flight.
