Man arrested for child rape in Stevens County

Robert Jennings Vandivier was arrested on an outstanding Stevens County warrant for third-degree child rape.

COLVILLE, Wash. – A man accused of child rape in Stevens County has been arrested after a 15-year investigation.

According to the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation into Robert Jennings Vandivier was launched in June 2009. Investigators said they received credible information that Vandivier had impregnated a 14-year-old girl.

The sheriff’s office said the girl gave birth six months later in December and DNA testing confirmed Vandivier was the father.

In November 2012, detectives issued an arrest warrant for Vandivier, but investigators claim Vandivier has “disappeared.”

Last June, the sheriff’s office said multiple agencies were working together to find Vandivier.

The sheriff’s office said the United States Marshals Service found Vandivier in Mesa, Arizona, on July 2. Vandivier was arrested on an outstanding Stevens County warrant for third-degree child rape.

“I cannot express enough how much I appreciate the U.S. Marshals’ efforts and successful location of Robert Vandivier,” said Ericka George, a prosecutor with the Stevens County District Attorney’s Office. “This is a case where the allegations are that a 14-year-old child became pregnant. The charges were brought by this prosecutor’s office in 2012 – at which time the defendant fled the judicial district and the case has been pending for more than a decade. The defendant had previously successfully evaded prosecution and I look forward to the opportunity to finally seek justice for these crimes.”
