Two found dead in possible murder-suicide in downtown Calexico

UPDATE – 5:02 p.m.

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) – Calexico Police have released more details about the victims.

According to CPD, a witness said he saw a 61-year-old woman from Holtville enter the One Stop and then leave shortly after. A second witness said he heard a loud noise, saw the woman injured in her car and a 76-year-old man from Calexico next to her vehicle. Both suffered gunshot wounds.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and the man succumbed to his injuries at Brawley Pioneer Memorial Hospital.

According to CPD, the man and woman were married but were in the process of divorcing.


UPDATE (1:44 p.m.): The Imperial County Executive Office has issued a press release announcing a “temporary suspension of services” at the One Stop Business & Employment office, effective “immediately.”

While offices will remain closed through the end of the week, services will be available at the El Centro office, 2799 S. 4th Street, according to management.


UPDATE (1:18 p.m.): CPD issued a press release regarding the possible murder-suicide in downtown Calexico Monday morning.

According to the press release, the incident occurred in the “One Stop Operation parking lot,” and officers arrived at the scene around 9:00 a.m. after receiving reports of an injured man and woman.

According to CPD, one witness saw a woman enter and exit One Stop while her husband was standing outside the establishment, while another witness heard a loud noise and found the woman in the car while the man was standing outside. Both the man and woman suffered gunshot wounds.

According to CPD, the woman died at the scene while officers provided medical aid to the man “until paramedics arrived.” He was then taken to Brawley Pioneer Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

According to CPD, the investigation is still ongoing.
