Teenager arrested in fatal, fiery crash, Phoenix police say

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A 19-year-old woman is facing charges after she caused a fatal crash in north Phoenix on Friday while driving while impaired, according to police.

Madison Carey was released from the hospital and taken to jail on charges of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault, police said.

The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m.

According to police, Carey was driving west on Pinnacle Peak Road near 56th Street when she left the road and struck bushes and palo verde trees.

She got back on the road, crossed the center line and crashed into a Toyota Corolla with five passengers.

The accident caused a fire, which the Phoenix fire department later extinguished.

All six people were taken to hospital.

Juliene Aumani, 53, was a passenger in the Corolla and died in hospital.

Another Corolla passenger was seriously injured but is expected to survive.

The condition of the other three passengers is stable.

Carey was hospitalized but later released and taken to jail.
