One dead after accidental shooting on Rialto Street

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – A man has been arrested following a fatal shooting that left one man dead on Rialto Street on Wednesday.

Police arrived at the Rialto Street home on July 3 and found 24-year-old Aaron Hurell on the porch with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. Hurell was taken to URMC, where he died of his injuries on July 6.


After an investigation, the RPD Major Crimes Division said 25-year-old Marquell Miler was on the second floor of the home with a rifle in his hand when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

According to police, the bullet went through the floor and hit Hurell in the head as he was walking on the first floor.

According to police, Hurell and Miller were acquaintances and Hurell was visiting the house at the time of the shooting. The incident appears to have been an accident.

According to police, officers on scene found the rifle in a vehicle in the driveway. Another loaded handgun was found in the backyard.

Miller turned himself in to investigators on July 8 and was charged with second-degree manslaughter.

His arraignment in Rochester Municipal Court is scheduled for June 9 at 9:30 a.m.
