1 dead and 5 injured in accident under the influence of alcohol in Cicero

A Chicago man has been charged in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and four others injured in a Cicero suburb on Friday.

Raul Pedroza, 31, was speeding when he lost control of his Toyota and drove into oncoming traffic. At around 12:15 a.m., he collided head-on with a Mazda in the area of ​​5200 West 16th Street, Cicero police said.

The Toyota overturned and Pedroza and a passenger in his car were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Mazda, Fernando Calderon, 30, also of Chicago, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Calderon’s three passengers were seriously injured and taken to area hospitals.

Investigators found that Pedroza’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

Pedroza was charged with negligent homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and improper use of the road.

He is still in the hospital awaiting a detention hearing.
