Norwich – Police Chief Patrick Daley on Monday released “limited and focused” dashboard and body camera footage of a brawl in Jenkins Park and said officers’ response to the incident will be investigated by the New London County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether officers’ use of force was appropriate.

Daley said during a City Hall news conference that he has asked New London District Attorney Paul Narducci to conduct the investigation in the name of “transparency and accountability.” He said the rest of the dashboard and body camera footage, which comes from numerous officers and includes images of many people, will be available once it is redacted.

In the meantime, he said, the department is sharing select footage to address concerns about the level of violence used to suppress a large crowd, something the two police officers who responded to reports of a disturbance in the park did not initially anticipate.

The park was being used for a basketball tournament in memory of Camaury Clack, who was shot and killed outside his Sandy Lane home a year ago in May. City officials have said no permits were in place for the basketball tournament and police were unaware of the event before being called to the scene for an alleged disturbance.

This is an evolving story.
