90-minute car theft series | Man arrested, Fairfax County police investigating

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia (DC News Now) — Police said they arrested a man accused of stealing a car from one motorist and attempting to steal other cars within 90 minutes.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said the accused person is Ranzo Johnson, 38, of Annandale.


According to FCPD, on July 6, at approximately 5:50 p.m., officers were in the 8600 block of Woodlawn Ct. in Woodlawn after receiving word of a robbery. When police arrived, witnesses told them that a man had attacked a person and attempted to steal their car. Several people intervened and detained the man, Johnson, there.

Investigators said their investigation revealed that Johnson successfully carjacked someone in the 7600 block of Allman Dr. in Annandale at around 4:35 p.m. According to FCPD, the driver was in her SUV when Johnson pulled her out and drove off in the SUV. The driver was injured, but her injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators said Johnson drove to the 8600 block of Richmond Highway in Mount Vernon, where the SUV stopped. There, he is accused of attempting to steal a second vehicle that contained two people. Several good Samaritans prevented the theft and the people in the vehicle were not injured.

According to FCPD, Johnson attempted to get away and abduct the man in Woodlawn Court, where he was arrested. The driver had injuries, but they were not life-threatening.

Johnson was injured before police arrived at Woodlawn Court. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The arrest warrants investigators obtained against Johnson were for auto theft, three counts of attempted auto theft and two counts of assault.
