Sault News: Suspect charged with entering victim’s home and sexual assault

A 23-year-old man in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged after a victim was sexually assaulted by a casual acquaintance.

Sault police received a 911 call about a sexual assault in the Steelton area around 8:40 p.m. on July 7, police said in a news release Monday.

“Upon arrival, officers located the accused and took them into custody,” police said.

“An investigation revealed that the defendant entered the victim’s residence unannounced and sexually assaulted her. The defendant was arrested. The defendant and the victim had minimal prior contact.”

The charges include sexual assault and illegal residence in a residential building.

The defendant was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
