Ludhiana: Neighbour kidnaps and rapes 7-year-old girl

A worker is said to have kidnapped a seven-year-old girl from her sleep with her mother and raped her.

The accused took the minor to the roof of the house in the workers’ quarters in Kila Mohalla.

The incident occurred on June 22 and Division 4 police received an initial report of the crime on Sunday.

The accused was identified as Mohammad Suraaj.

The case was registered following a statement from the girl’s mother. The plaintiff said she lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in the working-class district.

She said she was sleeping in her room on June 22 when the accused showed up. The accused kidnapped her daughter while she was sleeping and went to the roof where he raped her. When the girl resisted, the accused threatened to kill her, the plaintiff added.

According to the FIR, the accused threatened the minor that he would kill her and her mother if she told anyone about the incident. The accused fled after leaving her on the roof.

She said her daughter came back and described the ordeal to her. The plaintiff added that they did not file a complaint out of fear. They later decided to report the matter to the police.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Veena Rani, who is investigating the case, said that soon after receiving the complaint, the Division Number 4 police filed an FIR against the accused under sections 376 AB and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

She said a manhunt would be launched for the fugitive defendant.
