Avoyelles man arrested for murder of senior citizen

AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (WNTZ) – On July 6, 2024, at approximately 2:05 p.m., the Avoyelles Parish 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a homicide. Shortly thereafter, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) patrol officers arrived at the scene. APSO detectives were also on scene.

Further investigation by detectives from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office revealed that the victim, 76-year-old Nellie Whitstine Rousseau of Marksville, LA, died from an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation determined that the victim’s grandson, 29-year-old Zachary Stephen Bullitt of Marksville, committed the murder. According to a 12th Bullitt was arrested on a District Court warrant for first-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Bail has not yet been set. The investigation is ongoing.
